What’s on at the Club tomorrow

Tomorrow is a presentation by Darren Woolway ARPS entitled “Artificial and Mixed Lighting”.

It is also hand in for the Mike Gleave Nature Cup

This cup is a one-class PDI competition and you can enter up to 4 images. See below for guidelines on entries.

“Nature photography depicts living, untamed animals and uncultivated plants in a natural habitat, geology and the wide diversity of natural phenomena, from insects to icebergs. The photographer, whatever photographic medium is used, must have taken the original image. Photographs of animals, which are domesticated, caged or under any form of restraint, as well as photographs of cultivated plants are ineligible. Minimal evidence of humans is acceptable for nature subjects, such as barn owls or storks adapting to an environment modified by humans, or natural forces, like hurricanes or tidal waves, reclaiming it. No techniques that add, relocate, replace, or remove pictorial elements except by cropping are permitted. Techniques that enhance the presentation of the photograph without changing the nature story or the pictorial content, or without altering the content of the original scene, are permitted including HDR, focus stacking and dodging/burning. Techniques that remove elements added by the camera, such as dust spots, digital noise, and film scratches, are allowed. Stitched images are not permitted. All allowed adjustments must appear natural. Colour images can be converted to greyscale monochrome.”

Next Week is the Mike Gleave Nature Cup Competition to be judged by Darren Pullman AFIAP. It is also the last meeting of the Club at the USC before the Christmas break, so after the Nature Cup competition we’ll have some nibbles and do bring along any Christmas cards for other members.

Congratulations to those scoring a 20 in Round 1 of the Mono Print Competition.

A final batch of tickets for the New Year’s Eve fireworks by the Thames goes on sale tomorrow (28 November).

The tickets are released at midday on the Mayor of London’s website (currently showing as sold out, until the new batch goes on sale). They cost £10 each, and grant access to the riverside viewing area, close to where the fireworks are set off

York/WhitbySunday 5th to Tuesday 7 April 202

Sunday 5 April: travel up to York in the morning, walking tour around the city in the afternoon and time for sunset/evening photography

Monday 6 April: private minibus trip to Whitby via the York Moors, Goathland etc. – full itinerary to be confirmed (maximum 16 people so first come, first served)

Tuesday 7 April: more time in York before travelling back to London in the afternoon/evening

When I first put this in the Newsletter the cost was £106 for two nights’ accommodation at the Travelodge Central Layerthorpe (per room) plus around £50 for the day trip (depending on final numbers).

Charlotte will organise the above but you’ll need to book your own train tickets – these go on sale 12 weeks in advance so please put 12January in your diaries to get the best price! We’ll send out a reminder nearer the time too.

As Charlotte will have to pay in full for the Travelodge accommodation to get the saver rates, it’d be great if you could email her (charlotte.teager@outlook.com) to let her know that you’re coming and she will contact you to give her bank details. The cost is £106 (this forms your non-refundable deposit). If you’d like to share a room, please her know who you’re sharing with and transfer £53 each. Partners/relatives/friends are welcome on this trip.
