Panel Competitions

Firstly ours.  The theme for the panel competition is “The Old and the New” and will be based on a panel of 3 to 5 prints.  Hand in on 28 February.

Secondly.  Upminster Camera Club are holding an open panel competition on Saturday 13 April.  Ticket price for the day is £7.50, entry price for the competition is £3.50 per panel.  Entry details and forms are available on their website at www.upminstercameraclub.org.uk.

Audio Visual Competition

Selsdon Camera Club is hosting the 17th SLF Audio Visual Competition on Saturday 16 February and will give a warm welcome to all members of clubs within the Federation.  The competition will take place at St. John’s Community Hall, Upper Selsdon Road, Selson, CR2 8DD.  The Judge will be Clive Tanner, FRPS.

Photography Evening

Maidstone SNAPS’ speaker for this year’s Star Night will be Guy Edwardes (www.guyedwardes.com) from Dorchester.  Guy is a professional landscape, travel and wildlife photographer.  He graduated with a degree in photography following various courses in nature conservation.  He now markets a library of over 150,000 35mm, medium format and digital images from his own office as well as being associated with several agencies.  His work is published in many well known photographic magazines and daily newspapers and enjoys trying to capture subjects in new ways, using new techniques to produce unique images.

Guy’s talk is on Wednesday, 20th March at Oaken Hall, Ditton Community Centre.  Tickets cost £5.00 and can be purchased from either Graham Chambers (01622 741252) or Margaret Lloyd (01622 672492) who can also provide more details.

 

Exhibitions

Beckenham Photographic Society are holding their annual exhibition on the ground floor of Beckenham Public Hall, 4 Bromley Road, Beckenham, BR3 5JE and is open to the public at the following times:

* Thursday 21st Feb and Friday 22nd February : 10am to 8pm

* Saturday 23rd February : 10am – 5pm

The Opening and Presentation of Awards by the judge, Paul Foley FRPS MPAGB EFIAP, will take place on Wednesday, 20th February at 8pm and visitors from other photographic clubs and societies are welcome.  Entry is free and copies of the prints may be purchased.

Man Ray Portraits

At the National Portrait Gallery – 7 February to 27 May 2013 – entry fee payable

Focusing on his career in America and Paris between 1916 and 1968, the exhibition highlights Man Ray’s central position among the leading artists of the Dada and Surrealist movements and the significant range of contemporaries, celebrities, friends and lovers that he captured: from Marcel Duchamp and Pablo Picasso to Kiki de Montparnasse, Lee Miller and Catherine Deneuve. Featuring over 150 vintage prints and key works from international museums and private collections, the exhibition also demonstrates Man Ray’s use of revolutionary photographic techniques and early experiments with colour, as well as surveying his published work in leading magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair.
