This will be the last Newsletter for a couple of weeks as I will be on holiday, so I have tried to list below events happening during this period.

 

What’s on at the Club tonight and soon

Tonight it’s Round 1 of the Colour Print Competition, which will be judged by Steve Lawrensen ARPS.

 

On 2 October we have an evening of presentations by members. Betty Deshmukh will show some of her photos and Steve Jones will give a talk on how to mount and present your photos in readiness for our competitions. It is also hand in PDIs for Round 1.

 

On 9 October Round 1 of the PDI competition will be judged by Darren Pullman.

 

On 16 October it is hand in for Round 1 of the Monochrome Print Competition.

 

Our Next Outing – Sunday 9 November 

We are planning to be present at the commemoration of military conflicts taking place in and around the Cenotaph in Whitehall. We can also visit the Tower of London to view the poppies before they are removed on 11 November. More details of where and what time to meet will follow so please save the date for now.

 

Summer Project

Congratulations to the V team whom Dave Mason judged the winner of our summer project.

 

Continental Weekend Away – June 2015

We are planning to visit the Battlefields of Flanders and Artois. The Package includes return Eurotunnel crossing Dover – Calais, 4 days executive coach travel, 3 nights Half Board in a 3* hotel – Altia Tourcoing or similar, porterage, welcome drink, half day guided tour of Flanders Battlefields (5 hours), entry to In Flanders Fields Museum, visit to the Flanders Battlefield, Yorkshire Trench and half day guided tour of Artois Battlefields (5 hours).

The Price would be in the region of £300 per person sharing a twin/double room. Single room supplement of £65.00. We need to have a certain number of people so if you would be interested please let me, Betty, Peter Ergis or Paul Whitfield know.

Walk London Autumn Ambles – Saturday 27 and Sunday 28 September 2014

A weekend of free guided walks all around the city. Most are turn up on the day – some need booking. Best to simply check their website as there are lots to choose from. www.walklondon.org.uk

The London Pearly Kings and Queens Society Costermongers Harvest Festival Parade Service – Sunday 28 September 2014 

Starts at 1:00 pm at Guildhall Yard at 1:00 pm with traditional entertainment before a parade down to St Mary-le-Bow Church for the service at 3:00 pm. This is attended by many Mayors, Donkey’s and Carts, Marching Bands and of course the Pearly Kings and Queens and many other colourful characters. All the offerings are donated to the Whitechapel Mission.

Kempton Steam Museum Classic Car and Bike Show – Sunday 28 September – 10:30 am to 4:00 pm.

Last year’s show saw not one, but two Delorean supercars turn up in tandem, along with a number of French Citroën Traction Avants and two of the biggest Jaguar saloons ever built – the enormous 420Gs. MGs, E-types, Cadillac convertibles – you name it, they will have it, plus a fire engine coming. Kempton Steam Engines Trust, Snakey Lane, Hanworth, Middlesex, TW13 6XH – www.kemptonsteam.org. English Heritage Battle of Hastings – Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 October 2014 – 10:00 am to 5:00 pm – 1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey and Battlefield

Re-live the atmosphere and tension as over 400 soldiers clash in a re-enactment of the 1066 Battle of Hastings. Get up close to the knights and their horses in the new cavalry encampment. Immerse yourself in medieval life: watch the chain mail and weaponry makers and take an entertaining look at the Bayeux Tapestry. Discover the events leading up to the battle in a specially commissioned play. Marvel at the medieval falconry and see if you have what it takes in the have-a-go archery. More info on the English Heritage website.

 

Selsdon Camera Club Annual Exhibition and Open Day – Saturday 11 October 2014 at The Methodist Church, Limpsfield Road, Sanderstead, Surrey, Satnav Post Code CR2 9LG (Majestic Wine Company opposite halls). Free admission and light refreshments.

 

Hailsham Photographic Society are bringing a “Travelling Colour Show” (an AV show) to St. Dunstans Church Hall, 34 London Road, Southborough TN4 0QA on Saturday 18th October at 7:00 pm (doors open 6:30 pm). Tickets £5.00 on the door.

A3+ printer Epson Stylus Photo R1900. Though it is not a current model in the Epson range, its specifications can still be found on the Epson web site, simply search on R1900. The price is £100 for the printer and £60 for a full set of unopened inks in addition to the part used ones already installed. It has 8 ink cartridges and a full set currently costs £75 from Premier Inks. The printer is in full working order but the buyer would need to provide a USB cable.
