Reminders

Firstly, the judge for this Thursday is Dave Wilcox from Upminster CC and not Liz Boud.

Secondly, a reminder about the forthcoming Theme Competition.

Each season we have a competition based on a particular subject or theme.  This season’s competition is on 7 March 2013.  The theme will be “The Old and the New” and will be based on a panel of 3 to 5 prints.  For those members who have little or no experience of putting together a panel, Betty will reveal all on 14 February 2013. It is not as difficult as you think! In essence, the prints will need to look as a set, complimenting each other. You can specify if they are all in a line, on two rows or some other configuration.  By giving you much more notice of the subject than previously, it is hoped that many more members will enter this competition.  Any print used in this competition will not preclude it from being used in future Club Competitions, the Kerri Cup Competition or the Annual Exhibition, subject to being in the same format.

Photography Courses

The Photographers Workshops have just introduced an exciting new photography course into their 2013 Programme entitled Creative Portraiture for Beginners on 16th February.  This is a one day course which will allow students to indulge their own creative flair to make the most of their people pictures.  Looking at what makes a great portrait great the course will focus on composition and how composition can make the difference between a simple snap shot and a work of art, how to pose your subject and put them at their ease and how to make the most of your environment.     Full details are available on their website http://www.photographersworkshops.co.uk/#/creative-portraiture-for-begin/4572740763.

Can anyone help?

Tony Lewis runs the ‘Biggin Hill – Then and Now’ and he needs your help.

He has just purchased 100 glass plate negatives, circa 1920s, and they show shots of Biggin Hill – including the snow storm of 1927, general shots of Biggin Hill and shots of the Temple Stores, inside and out. The problem is that although his scanner has a light box in the lid it only has a slot of light for 35mm slides and negatives. The glass negatives are 5” x 7”.  Do you have, or know someone who has and could lend him a scanner so he can get these photographs onto his website?  It would only take en evening to do. Please drop us an email if you are able and willing to help.
